Printed Dated Pre-cancels - Lansing, Michigan. Style WFH-1 (W.F. Hall) - PSS type 204 on Scott #637, the 5¢ Theodore Roosevelt stamp from the 1926-34 set. Control is dated OCT 41. 2004 PSS Printed Dated Type Catalog value is $20.00. See scans for condition. Dated controls were required by the post office after July 1938. These controls could be printed, stamped or handwritten but were to include user identification (usually initials) and month and year of u...se. This was required to prevent the re-use of the precancels. The catalog value of a precancel is for the most commonly found stamp with that precancel. Some denominations are scarcer than others and values for scarcer denominations may be higher. You should refer to a specialized catalog to determine the rarity factor.
