STEUBEN ' S PURPLE LAVA CLUTHRA VASE
Item History & Price
Cluthra glass is partially transparent, two-layered glass, wherein chemicals fixed between the two layers create small air pockets in the center of white layers that create small air pockets in the center of white splotches. The air pockets are not centered but off to one side. This cluthra vase is 1920s form by Frederick Carder 1863 - 1963. It was made at Steuben's Art Glass works in Corning New York. It is a bulbous vase 10.5" high x 9" diameter. The color is purple lava. It ha...s the matte acid fleur-de-lis with Steuben. I put a pen mark around the mark. There are two slivers shaved off the pontil edge. This may have happened when the base of the piece was sanitzed or sanded off. They do not feel sharp. The vase weighs 6 oz 9.5. There are faint scratches on the base around the pontil from use. The third bottom photo shows the mark better.
