MONKEES ULTRA - RARE SHEET/SLEEVE FOR 3RD U. S. UNRELEASED SINGLE
Item History and Pricing
I had never seen a picture of what the U.S. sleeve looked like, and I have not seen any details as to how many were printed (and I have been following the Monkees since 1966). However, I recently purchased items that once belonged to the late Don Kirshner, and included was this item (which I had no idea about). It is a sheet that certainly appears to be made to be cut and folded into the sleeve for the never-issued third single on Colgems. It is the same picture used for the "Pleasant Valley Sunday" single, but has the 66-1003 catalog number (which follows the 66-1002 number for the "I'm a Believer" single) and has Colgems spelled out (as it is on the first two singles) rather than the logo used on the PVS single.
Could this be the only one in existence? I don't know, but again, I have never even seen a picture of this sleeve in any Monkees book (and I have many), much less ever seen an actual or, like this, a sheet that could be made into an actual sleeve.
Perhaps this was given to Kirshner for his approval prior to any printings (if indeed any more were printed). I just don't know.
Anyway, here is a true collectible for that Monkees fan. Free priority shipping! And check my 100% feedback for legitimacy! Good luck and thanks for looking!
BTW, those are little black dots, not holes, in the pictures. Something to do with printing? On Sep-01-19 at 09:41:36 PDT, seller added the following information:In answer to a couple of questions, the sheet is not in new condition - it is somewhat worn and handled. However, there are no tears. The dimensions are approximately 14 1/2" x 8 1/2" (but, as shown in the picture, the cutting is not straight). Yes, it can be cut and glued so that it can be made into a nice-looking 7" x 7" picture sleeve (with no markings showing) if so desired.
Since the original posting, a couple of major Monkees collectors have told me that this is indeed a major find and to expect heavy bidding as the auction winds down.
