(And please check out the other beautifulpots that I have on eBay.) You arebidding on an exquisite museum quality nerikomi vessel by Massachusetts ceramistThomas Hoadley. (Hoadley’s work is included in the permanentcollections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Los Angeles County Museum ofArt and The White House - and is exhibited and collected internationally.) DESCRIPTION: Thisexquisite porcelain bowl from Thomas Hoadley is a high walled vessel with a subtlegraceful wavy asymmetry. The bowl is decorated inside and out with threebands of nerikomi magic. The widest bandis a mesmerizing pattern of black and white lines separated by whitecolumns. Below that is a narrow marbleizedlight brown and white band. The lowest featureslight and dark gray flourishes set against a smoky black background. This nicely segues into the solid blackbottom of the bowl. The bowl/vase is silky smooth to the touch andas lovely to hold as it is to behold. Thisexquisite work stands 6 1/2” tall and measures 7 1/4” across the widest sectionof the rim. It is in excellent vintage condition-no chips, cracks or repairs- and has the potter’s personal mark on the bottom. Please note- Only upon the closest of inspectionsis there evidence of gentle wear towards the base of the bowl; the piece displaysmagnificently. This is a no reserve auction. PROCESS: Using the traditional Japanese technique ofNerikomi, Hoadley slices and stacks colored clays repeatedly to form patternsand color/textures in the clay itself, resulting in a single block or “loaf”made up of thousands of overlapping layers. Cross-sectional slices are then cutfrom the block and joined together to form the vessel. This process allows the patterns to penetratethrough the thickness of the wall so that they are visible both inside and out. Thus, the pattern becomes the substance and structure of the form itself rather than just a surface embellishment SHIPPING: Winning bidder pays forinsured UPS Ground or USPS Priority shipping.
