Famed singer, bariton...e and actor Nelson Eddy handwritten letter to Sherman thanking him for his charming Christmas gift. Written on his 7.25 X 10.5 on his personal stationery. Eddy appeared in 19 musical films during the 1930’s and 1940’s as well as in opera, concert stage, radio, television and nightclubs. Excellent condition. John Sherman Billingsley was a former bootlegger who founded and owned The Stork Club, New York City’s most famous nightclub (1929-1965) world renowned for its celebrity clientele and often recognized as one of the most prestigious nightclubs in the world. Originally established on West 58th Street in 1929; after a raid by Prohibition agents in 1931 the Club relocated to East 51st Street. From 1934 until it closed in 1965 it had been located on 3 East 53rd Street, just East of 5th Avenue. Billingsley often lavished expensive gifts and food & drinks to his famous clientele and press which assured a steady flow of famous social, political and celebrity visitors from and the ensuing publicity.
