A rare original printed and manuscript completed ticket for the WASHINGTON CITY CANAL LOTTERY, held in 1796 to raise funds to cut a canal through the newly created District of Columbia to connect Tiber Creek with the Potomac River. The plan was unsuccessful. This lottery ticket was signed by DANIEL CARROLL of Dudington [1764-1849], whose family were the original proprietors of the land donated to create the City of Washington. The Capitol building was built where his house once stood..............One page, size 1 3/4" x 4 1/4", blank reverse, hand made rag paper, very good condition for such a rare survivor [see scan], ........Guaranteed original.....$5.00 shipping............
