Vintage C1910 " Betts ' S Patent Portable Globe "

This fabulous "Betts's" globe by "George Phillip & Son " dates from around 1910.The collapsible globe was patented by John Betts in 1856. The globe works very much like an umbrella, it opens out when the the bottom is slid up.This example has suffered over the years and has some splits to folds to the top and bottom.The binding that went around the top and bottom is missing.The colours and writing to the cotton globe have retained a good colour, although the blue oceans appear to have... faded.The metal frame works well and all of the spokes are present.however, I haven't tried to open the globe to far to prevent any further damage.
