Up for auction is very good and early “snakey head, ” hollow Premier Grade Hen Bluebill made by the Mason factory, Detroit, ca. 1900s. This old bird is in good original paint and still shows some of the brush swirls that collectors like so much. No repairs or touch-up. This decoy has seen some action, showing very small chip to the end of the bill. It has a few age checks on the body - on the back and breast. Several of t...he spots of putty covering the nails that hold the two body halves together have raised a bit. There is putty loss around most of the neck. There may have been some wax applied to the body making it a bit shiny to the eye. The glass eyes are good and original. It is branded “Dr. O” on the bottom in paint. This is a great example of the Mason factory’s highest level production that is in remarkable condition for its age. Measures 13-3/4” long; 5-3/4” wide; and 6-1/4” tall.
