This is the absolute top-of-the-line Apple Macintosh computer from 1993, the Quadra 950. This computer is massively loaded with 196mb of RAM, with all RAM slots full.

This is a very, very clean Quadra 950, just look at the photos. The case, all the bezels, everything is present, intact, and unbroken. NONE of those crappy little tabs are broken off. I have more Macs than anyone, and 98% of 1990s Macs have broken pieces and chips of plastic floating around the case, something like a Mac 7500 sounds like a half-empty container of Tic Tacs. Not this Quadra 950. It's unbroken, and the way I pack them for shipment, it will stay that way.

The Quadra 950 was a barn full of NuBus slots, having 5 NuBus slots, the most of any Mac, with space for lots of drives and RAM, and power supply that takes up more cubic space than a Mac LC. It is supersized, big, and heavy.

This super high end computer setup came from a creative office in Los Angeles, but really it was part of a fastidious collection, the proprietor of that office, the Amiga hardware that collector had was the best and I finally moved to sell it earlier this year, it was amazing, as is this. I got this Quadra 950 in late 2012, I know it wasn't really used since the mid-90s but some file dates suggest that it was at least turned on in 2003, if the battery date was correct. I put it directly into a faraway place in the warehouse and never plugged it in until yesterday. The PRAM battery was only 0.39v. Nonetheless, this Quadra 950 started up instantly the first time (well, after the 90 second delay the firmware does with scanning the SCSI buses) and worked perfectly.

I'm sad to say that any dirty marks it has on it came from ME in the time I had it, I had it stacked with many of my Quadra 950s and put in flight cases and on rolling dollies over seven years, when I had to move it to other locations a few times. When it came in, there was not so much as a fingernail scratch or thumbprint on it, anywhere. You can see that it does have some light scuffs on the sides and edges, but the photos are very, very clear and 3, 072 x 2, 304 high resolution, so you can see everything clearly. I don't know what was going on with my camera, the very closeup macro shots of the Mac screen (OS, RAM, programs installed, etc.) were blurry and unfocused no matter what I tried, but over two feet it was crystal-clear, as you can see in all the other photos here in this listing.

This was used with a very complicated NuBus card setup with all five slots full, and a two hard drive setup that took a long time to boot with all the extensions.

For the purposes of this sale, I set this up with a single hard drive, the original 270mb (or 250mb, it says "270S" so I think that is 270mb unformatted capacity) SCSI Apple branded Quantum Pro Drive LPS with Apple OS 7.5.5 installed. This hard drive works well and is VERY quiet. I haven't tested the floppy drive and won't.

It also has a ton of big money 1993-1995 killer apps installed, Adobe Acrobat 3.0, Adobe After Effects 3.1, Adobe Illustrator 5.5, Adobe Photoshop 3.0, and Adobe type utilities. This is set up with what I think is an Apple factory internal SCSI terminator on the end of the line, and it has a SCSI ID switch on that front hard drive frame. This is possibly the only Quadra 950 I've ever seen that had TWO of those hard drive frames in there, as you can see in the photo, I have left it in and included it here.

I went into my awesome collection of Apple Macintosh parts (I have more Macs than anyone reading this, I have 50 of 'em I haven't even SEEN since 2007, they are locked in a flight case that is just too far back in the warehouse) and pulled out five MINT condition NuBus slot hole covers, so this now looks just like it came out of the box.

This Quadra 950 works perfectly, it boots up to OS 7.5.5, ALL RAM slots are loaded with 196mb RAM, most of them a type of RAM I have rarely seen before, very thick and tall RAM cards that look like little brick walls (see pics).

It has built-in video which I have set to do 1, 024 x 768. This is the resolution needed for my professional clients so I set all my Macs to that if they are able to do it. This one is able to do it.

The PRAM battery is new, installed by me today, reading out 3.67v.

The logic board is like new. Just look at the photos.

This computer has five NuBus slots, all of which are empty because it has and is using built-in video at 1, 024 x 768.

This Mac is really fast compared to some others I've tried recently.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'll be listing another Quadra 950 within a day or so. It's almost as clean as this one, also works perfectly and has a brand new PRAM battery, has (I think) 96mb RAM, but is missing the side lid, which I stupidly threw away when I was parting out some dead Quadra 950s about seven years ago, thinking it had a bad logic board with a bad ADB port (it didn't, I was using the wrong keyboard, one that doesn't work on LOTS of early 90s Macs, with whole rows of keys out). I'm taking a HUGE hit on price for that one, so I'm not including a hard drive on that one.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The security key that is always missing from Quadra 950s? No missing key here, this sale includes the key with the Apple logo on it. PLEASE remember that the right/most clockwise position for this key is locked, as the little icon shows, and your keyboard and mouse will be disabled, so don't use that position, just leave the key in the straight up position and start it from the button on the keyboard as intended.

This sale includes only the desktop computer and security key, and no other peripherals (monitor, keyboard, mouse...) are included. I used one of my own Apple monitors (15AV, my favorite) and one of my own Extended Keyboard II (that will be posted for sale on eBay within a few days).

Shipping

This will be very, very safely packed for shipment. I will pack it into a cardboard carton with solid foam, and, if possible, double-box it into a second outer carton.

Shipping to USA is flat rate $95.50, but if you are in California, please send me a message BEFORE you buy and I will reduce the shipping to $58.25 for you.

Generally speaking, shipping to the rest of the world on this item is with the eBay Global Shipping program, however, I can ship both of these Quadra 950s together to any major city in the world with an economy ocean export shipment for $325, and NO ONE else on eBay has that capability. If you want me to set that in the listing, please write and confirm your city and I'll tell you if I can do it. You'll need to pick it up at a terminal and clear customs yourself (the Synhouse customs support package makes this easy), this is not shipping to your door.

Synhouse has the most extreme shipping experience in the electronic music business and as much as anyone on eBay, period. With 29 years in the international mail order business, Synhouse has what it takes to get it done.

Free local pickup in the Los Feliz district of L.A. is okay if you can work around my busy schedule, as I am very much looking forward to not packing and shipping this. It will take me half a day of company time I won't be paid for to pack and ship this as carefully as I do.

Please see my other listings for SCSI drive enclosures and cables that might be of interest.

Synhouse accepts PayPal. Additionally, Synhouse has accepted payments directly by Visa, MasterCard, and American Express for 19 years now.
