16mm Sound Film from the National Aeronautics and Space AdministrationSchlieren photography 1970s GREAT SCIENCE INFORMATION- ...the dialog, GRAPHICS clever and freshbrings a portion of America’s SPACE PROGRAMLibrary HOME ON THE BIG SCREEN!!!Astounding informationand demonstrations that are Captivating.Collectors NOTE: Last year I was sent a collection of filmsfrom a film collector that was a close friend to a former employee at NASA whoretired many ...years ago. He had anextensive film collection and he was able to save many duplicates from a NASAfilm library. The subjects range from Energy Consumption and Conservation, to Instructionalfilms on Electro Magnetics and knowledge of Photons and Actual SpaceExploration Films. Nevertheless I will be offering these historicallysignificant films during the next several months. Any question please let me know! This is a well produced anddirected film about the Photography process of Schlieren. A truly Fascinating Film!Aerodynamicistsuse wind tunnels to test models of proposed aircraft andengine components. In some wind tunnel tests, flow visualization techniquesare used to provide diagnostic information about the flow around the model.Thisfilm describes an flow visualization technique called schlierenphotography. Schlieren photography is similar to the shadowgraph techniqueand relies on the the fact that light rays are bent whenever they encounterchanges in density of a fluid. Schlieren systems are used to visualize the flowaway from the surface of an object. The schlieren system shown in this figureuses two concave mirrors on either side of the test section of the wind tunnel.A mercury vapor lamp or a spark gap system is used as a bright source of light. The light is passed through a slit which is placed such that the reflectedlight from the mirror forms parallel rays that pass throughthe test section. On the other side of the tunnel, the parallel rays arecollected by another mirror and focused to a point atthe knife edge. The rays continue on to a recording device like avideo camera.Theearliest schlieren photographs of shock waves were black and white images.Thisfilm expores this fascinating technique. PLEASE NOTE: I am a very fussy collector of film, and believe thatfull disclosure is the only policy.
