IBM Tube Tester (Extremely Rare 1948 1949)
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:20566617 | Brand: IBM |
This was an IBM service mans tube tester for IBM field technicians. This is not your average dial it up with a chart tube tester (please know this when purchasing). Sockets are provided for 7 pin miniature, 9 pin miniature, and 8 pin octal. There is a flying lead patch panel. An enterprising person can outboard a socket for other types of tubes (I have). Most testing can be accomplished using a line by line tube manual, like the 73 GE Essential Chara...cteristics.
I will email a high quality scan of the papers that were with this tester when I acquired it. The papers had to be scanned to preserve them. There are 3 pages of general instructions for operating the tester (pictured) and testing examples for 7 types used in the field by IBM. 2D21, 6AQ5, 6BE6, 6J6, 6SK7, 12SN7 (pictured), and 25L6. One of the papers is dated 1948, another paper has a 1949 date.
Note: the bias batteries were an old odd type and missing when I acquired this. The times I used this, I wired up some external 9V batteries with a voltage divider.
