Here is a RARE EARLY WWII US ARMY PH-47E SIGNAL CORPS 4x5 Graflex Speed Graphic in unrestored condition. While it isn't overly pretty it no doubt saw some action! This is equipped with the ONLY BLACK SIGNAL CORPS KODAK ASA FLASH SYNC SUPERMATIC SHUTTER I'VE EVER SEEN! The lens is the usual Kodak Ektar 127mm lens, 1942 version. This camera (serial #318003) was from the last batch of Speed Graphics built in 1942. It comes complete with the black Speedgun 3-cell flash handle with re...flector and large bulb.
There is the Signal Corps PH-47E plate on top and a Signal Corps acceptance stamp on the drop bed.
The rear focal plane shutter works well at all speeds except the Open position is very slow to return, the curtain material seems quite dry and would need a service to be 100% useful. However the front shutter appears to work properly at all speeds so the camera is usable. Everything else mechanical appears to work as it should....all movements, focus rack, etc. The Hugo Meyer rangefinder works too with a good secondary image. The rear ground glass focus screen is in great condition as is the rear focus hood. The bellows have been taped at some stage along all corners. Naturally due to the history there is some general body wear!
This is a great opportunity to buy a real piece of WWII history as there's not that many around anymore, especially very early wartime ones in original condition.
