MCS (Modular Component Systems) was the house brand stereo equipment of the JC Penney department store chain. JC Penney did an outstanding job outsourcing their electronic equipment to a variety of major electronics manufacturers. The #683-8322 honeycomb disc 3 way linear phase speaker was subcontracted to Technics and is a Technics SB-X500 with the tweeter level control and port switched to the opposite side of the baffle, and the MCS cabinets and grills are actually built to a higher... quality standard. They were built in Japan with top quality drivers and cabinets. The drivers are all original drivers and are fully functioning. Cosmetically the cabinets and grills are in outstanding condition with minimal scratches and blemishes. Sourcing the correct size foam is no easy task (from Australia) and the process of refoaming the honeycomb disc drivers properly is difficult. These drivers have been professionally and correctly refoamed behind the disc face. This 3 way bass reflex system has a 10" honeycomb flat piston woofer and 5" honeycomb flat piston midrange, as well as a 1.2" honeycomb tweeter with a 3.2 oz. magnet. The baskets and trim plates are all machined aluminum billet. They have thermal protection circuitry with a reset button to prevent blown drivers. The protection circuit and level control have been cleaned. The dimensions are 21.25 X 11.25 X 10.5 and weigh 30 LBS.
