Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:216284 |
The second sampler. also worked in wool on gauze, is by Lydia Cooper and was finished in January 1900. The gauze is stitched with rows of alphabet letters, numbers and border patterns finishing with Lydia's name and the date of Jan 1900 running across the bottom section. The gauze has overall discolouration consistent with its age with a few patches of faint staining. The colours of the wool are good albeit not quite as vibrant as when it was originally made. The penultimate photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colours would have looked when Lydia first stitched it. This photograph also shows remnants of paper around the edges of the gauze from where the sampler has been glued down at some point of time.Measures 7 1/2" across x 7 3/4"
