SCARCE 1890s R H Ingersoll & Sons YANKEE Early Back Wind Pocketwatch Ufix L@@K
Item History & Price
Case Condition: This case has a couple of small dings in the case back and some other general light wear, but it’s not showing... anything of the type of wear that you would figure for a 120 year old “DOLLAR” pocketwatch!! These were only sold for a dollar or two originally and only intended to be a disposable watch to last someone a year or two and then you get another.
Case Metal: Chrome plated throughout
Dial Condition: This original dial rates GOOD cosmetic condition and shows some uniform wear throughout but remains in presentable condition- please see the photos!! This is probably a painted paper dial or cardboard backed paper dial of some sort.
Movement Type: BACK wind and BACK set early Ingersoll movement- I am not sure how long Ingersoll manufactured this style of movement for but the serial number on this watch appears to be just over 2 million.
Working / Non-Working: This watch does BACK wind and set the time smoothly and will NOT run due to a broken balance staff. Please approach this project with a spare and preferably running or at least good balance staff and hairspring parts movement!
Extras: Up for bid in this auction is the pictured 1896 model year R Ingersoll Bros YANKEE back wind and back set EARLY “Dollar” pocketwatch!! This is probably the EARLIEST style that Ingersoll came out with as it has the fewest and earliest patent dates on the movement that I can see compared to the later 1890s fancy engraved plates model that superceded the “back wind” model. The case and dial on this watch have great age character to them and are looking great for their age- nothing is “perfect” but the aging is very slight and is more “patina” than wear. This is a WORTHY project watch- the balance staff in this one IS wobbly so you’ll need to at least get that repair parts swap job done for this watch to run again. I am not a watchmaker and have no way of knowing if a new balance staff is all that this one will need to really run its best once again. I have priced this watch to $ELL with a ROCK BOTTOM low opening bid price and there is NO RESERVE!!!!Payment is due immediately upon purchase.
