Condition is almost like new, as you can see in the photographs. All of the plating on the small hardware is original, and all of it is clean. The record shaving assembly, which is typically missing on early Edison Home phonographs, is present on this one, and it's original, complete, and... just about spotless. The original Automatic reproducer has an excellent stylus and an undamaged diaphragm. The reproducer has a thicker, heavier weight than the weights found on the earliest Automatic reproducers, and it can be used with brown wax records and black wax records.
The Japanned bedplate enamel is original throughout and it's still deep black and in outstanding condition, just about mint. The delicate gold pinstriping on the bedplate is also original and it exhibits hardly any wear.
The cabinet is also in nearly perfect original condition, as you can see. The original finish is still smooth to the touch, and the original banner decal is stunning. All of the corners on the lower cabinet, and on the lid, are still tightly joined. The lid is beautiful, with no damage.
The mechanism below the deck is -- like every other aspect of the phonograph -- in outstanding condition, exhibiting virtually no wear. Everything is working properly.
The 15" all brass horn is original, and it's in excellent condition. No dents, no damage, no issues. The horn has a beautiful caramel patina befitting its age.
The phonograph plays great, especially for an early and typically temperamental "suitcase" style Home.
I'll include an early brown wax record so that you can enjoy the phonograph as soon as it arrives.
I've been selling and shipping antiquephonographs, antique radios and antique scientific apparatus for morethan 25 years. When you purchase an antique phonograph from me, you'llreceive a phonograph that arrives safely because it's been carefullypacked (by me, not by some well-intentioned butnonetheless confounded, doe-eyed teenager working at the UPS store whowouldn't know a phonograph from a farm tool), and you'll receive aphonograph that includes thorough but easy-to-understand set-up andoperating instructions, so you won't be left scratching your head, trying to figure out how it works. Sure, you can probably get a lowerprice from Joe and Janet Barn-Find, but when your "bargain" arrivesbroken, and without any hint of how it works or how you might be able toput it back together, you'll realize that you really do get exactlywhat you pay for.
If you're bidding from overseas, please contact me in advance for a shipping quote. The phonograph is large and heavy, and it cannot be shipped to some countries. Therefore, I will need to confirm my ability to ship it to you before you place a bid. Auction participants with no prior feedback should contact me before placing a bid.
That's about it. Buyer prepays and includes shipping.
