Make sure to check out all of my auctions after you've looked at this one. I'm listing another top shelf assortment of mechanical, technical and musical antiques -- including three near mint, all original antique phonographs -- and I suspect that there will be something of interest to just about everybody. And if you're heading out on vacation and would like me to hold your purchase for a week or two until you return, I'll be happy to do that. Just let me... know before you remit payment if you need me to keep your item, and I'll send you a special invoice reflecting delayed shipping. Regardless of when you'd like to have the item shipped to you, all payments for purchases are due when the auction ends.
Here's a beautiful 1910 Edison Home "D" cylinder phonograph withfactory combination gearing (plays both 2 and 4 minute cylinders), a 4-minute "H"reproducer (plays black wax Amberols as well as celluloid Blue Amberols), a 2-minute "C" reproducer (plays brown and black wax cylinders as well as celluloid Indestructible cylinders) and an original Edison No. 10 Cygnet horn. Thephonograph is in excellent working condition and needs nothing to beenjoyed immediately. It plays great, it sounds great, and it willarrive at your door with detailed, easy-to-understand set-up andoperating instructions so you won't have to guess what to do once you'veunpacked it.
Condition of the phonograph is excellent to near mint throughout. OriginalJapanned finish on the casting is almost like new, and the gold decorations are likewise close to mint. The motor isin excellent condition, with ample torque. The governor assembly isworking properly, and the pitch doesn't waver as a cylinder playsthrough. All of the gearing beneath the bedplate is clean. The cabinet is excellent, with its original finish intact. Original cabinet decal is crisp and unscarred.
The No. 10 Cygnet horn is original and in excellent condition, with clean paint and only scattered minor marks, the largest of which is a scuff inside the bell, which you can see in the last photo. Both original decals are still intact, and they are still complete. The painted surfaces on the bell (both inside and out) are original. Nothing has been touched up or restored.
The horn crane is original, with areas of oxidation and pitting on both upper and lower sections, but no more than you typically see on original Cygnet cranes, which are susceptible to blemishes. The crane support is original and in excellent condition, with a nice original Japanned finish.
The leather drive belt on the mechanism, the rubber horn coupler at the end of the horn, and the hanging spring on the horn crane are replacements. Everything else is original.
I'll include with the phonograph a couple of cylinders so it will be ready to play as soon as it arrives.
I've been selling and shipping antiquephonographs, antique radios and antique scientific apparatus for morethan 25 years. When you purchase an antique phonograph from me, you'llreceive a phonograph that arrives safely because it's been carefullypacked (by me, not by some well-intentioned butnonetheless confounded, doe-eyed teenager working at the UPS store whowouldn't know a phonograph from a farm tool), and you'll receive aphonograph that includes thorough but easy-to-understand set-up andoperating instructions, so you won't be left scratching your head, trying to figure out how it works. Sure, you can probably get a lowerprice from Joe and Janet Barn-Find, but when your "bargain" arrivesbroken, and without any hint of how it works or how you might be able toput it back together, you'll realize that you really do get exactlywhat you pay for.
That'sabout it. I will carefully prep everything for shipping and packeverything carefully and properly. Overseas bidders, please contact mein advance for a shipping quote and for my confirmation that I can ship it to you. The phonograph will be expensive to ship, as it will need to go out in two large packages (phonograph in one package; horn in the other). Auction participants with no priorfeedback history, or with hidden feedback, should contact me beforeplacing a bid. Buyer prepays and includes shipping.
