Four gilt decorated bands and red title label to spine. There is a twist to spine, else in good condition. Internally, there are... crisp new endpapers to the front and rear. Ink name and date to front blank (Adeline Buckland, 1875) and ink name to top of title page (Harriet Buckland). Small binders sticker to rear fixed endpapers. Contents are thumbed, with pale foxing/grubbiness throughout (more so to first couple of leaves and in places). Overall title page is creased to inner edges. Lightly toned with the occasional small mark. Outer page edges sit a touch steppily and are a little bumped in places, with the occasional creases and small nick/chip. Couple of leaves to rear are a little tatty/creased, and have brown markings to inner edges, where tape looks to have been removed. Tear to inner edge of one leaf. Else the majority of contents remain in reasonable and firm condition for age. 'Standard Novels' title page, Engraved frontispiece, engraved title page, title page, (1)-340 Engraved frontispiece signed Pickering with the publisher's name and date beneath, dated 1833, and engraved title vignette. FIRST Bentley Edition, FIRST single volume edition, FIRST ILLUSTRATED edition (Engraved frontispiece & title vignette). Fourth edition overall. A rare opportunity to own probably the most iconic novel by Jane Austen, and a piece of literary history.
