So here it is, one of Conn's top of the line instruments. When it came into my shop, it needed everything. It had a poor re-lacquer job, it had been played and loved. It needed attention. So what do you do with a beauty like this? Here's what I did:
Straightened body.Cleaned everything ... several times. Stripped the lacquer, had too. It was not done well. Yes, it would ...be nice to have that old lacquer in perfect condition. This one did not. Straighten many bent keys, new screws and rods as needed, re-fit most keys, re-solder posts as needed, chase threads on many of those adjustment feet, replace missing lock screws. That's what I remember, there was more I'm sure. All new pads, leveled to tone holes, regulated for proper closure. I did minimal dent work, it retains its legacy marks. There was one key modification on the D key. The touch piece was flexed down. Could easily be moved back (see pics)Neck looks to be a 10M model not the recognizable 30M. I have seen 30M's with this type of neck in the past. I believe it to be original. It was pulled down badly and was age hardened by previous repairs. The 8va key on the neck looks wonky I know. It plays well and functions. socket looks coppery although it is brass. You may look into another neck at some point though, again, this one functions.Case is solid. No issues.
There is a lot to read about with this instrument. Do some searches online and you'll come up with all manor of praise and criticism of this horn. I'd be glad to answer any questions you might have to the best of my ability. I am a trained repair tech, not an enthusiast also not a saxophonist.
