Up for sale, a 1984 Steinberger XL-2 headless vintage bass in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Complete with the original knee rest and Steinberger-branded gigbag, this XL-2 is the company's most ubiquitous original bass model, featuring original low impedance active EMG humbuckers and a body constructed of graphite fiber and epoxy resin. This body construction offered a stiffness and rigidity needed for the desired tonal profile, yet also proved li...ghtweight. Crafted in Newburgh, New York, this XL-2's unique construction allows it to deliver a tone that is astoundingly resonant and even, with piano-like sustain that is near endless. The simple three-knob layout (volume, blend, and tone) is incredibly effective, and the Tone knob has a particularly wide sweep, spanning from extreme brightness to warm thud. And while the Steinberger instruments originally came to prominence at the brith of the MTV era, the legacy of this model extends far beyond '80s Pop, and the XL-2 has proven to be one of the most viable options for a wide range of genres. This Steinberger weighs 8lbs 15oz and is strung with roundwound 45-105 strings.
The neck has a full and round C shaped profile with lots of shoulder, measuring .885" deep at the 1st fret and .999" at the 12th fret. On the 34" scale, the original fretwire has plenty of meat and height, showing only light wear on the crowns of frets 1-8. The nut measures 1 1/2" in width. Cosmetic wear includes light wear into the neck pickup cover on the bass-side edge and a few stray shallow dings and scuffs, yet overall this XL-2 presents very well and is quite clean.
The original gigbag is included.
