Original Description:
Herbert is an extremely rare Strunz polar bear c1910 measuring 13" nose to tail in totally original condition with around 70% of his white mohair remaining his head mechanism rotates 360 degrees and still works well . Steiff patented the neck mechanism in May 1908 the first sales figures were so promising that Steiff's competitor Wilhelm Strunz immediately took notes. He copied the Steiff polar bear and it's newly developed head mechanism in an unscrupulous manner. Steiff took Strunz t...o court which resulting in a verdict against Strunz who was ordered to pay 1500 marks or spend six months in jail if he ever produced or marketed the polar bear. This obviously makes Herbert very, very rare
