VINTAGE FISHER 500-TX TUNE-O-MATIC AM FM RECEIVER sounds great! . i have tested it on FM tuner, aux. and phono inputs. The FM tuner works along with the 4 preset tuning sections. I found that there was a loose solder joint or connection in the tuner section that made the volume lower and a bit muddy, but was able to put a shim between two components (see last photo) and the FM works very well now with good volume and clarity! might be a good idea to find and re-solder the co...ntact but my unconventional fix is working very well now. Aux input sounds great (I tried a good tuner i had plugged into the Aux, , as does the phono input - only tested phonw by plugging in an external tuner), with plenty of volume and very clear - good bass, treble, etc. I did notice that the balance control is a little "sticky" and had to turn it back and forth a little to get it to work smoothly - could use some contact cleaner, but much better as I use the receiver some. . I did not receive any AM stations clearly, so think it may need tuning possibly or some repair. When tuning along AM bandwidth, there is some noises at certain dial points, so it is receiving something, and i heard a faint voice at one place, so I think it probably just needs tuning. Again, there seems to be no problem at all with aux, tape, and phono inputs and FM is working really well now, along with the stereo light. I am trying to describe exact condition as far as i know. by the way, I just found the wood case and it is in nice shape. will be shipped usps parcel or fedex ground (depending on location, etc.- my choice) returns accepted if you pay the postage.
