RAVISHING Vintage PONYTAIL Barbie 3 • JAPAN • And Clothes • 1 DAY Only
Item History & Price
This raven-tressed beauty possesses a flocked brunette scalp. Her ponytail is long and still has shiny poodle curls at the end. She also has flyaway hair, but at least her top knot-is in its original set. The original rubber band near her ponytail's end had rotted away long ago, so I replaced it with a tiny clear elastic band. Marvel at how the poodle curls gently dance above her regal high forehead! And her oodles of poodles are still soft and manageable after 59 years.
This heavy, solid-torso Vintage Ponytail #3 Barbie has the delightful whiff of Crayola crayons and the accurate authentication markings, including the right buttock marked "Barbie" followed by "TM" in superscript. The Mattel Inc. copyright year in Roman numerals is 1958, marked as: MCMLVIII.
I believe this Vintage Ponytail to be a #3, not a transitional #3/#4. Her neck and torso are faded, but her face and extremities are light pink and not tanned. You be the judge, please. Her facial cosmetics, fingernail paint and toenail paint are all original. No restoration, retouches or makeovers. Tiniest rub at left corner of doll's upper lip; negligible rub (a teeny spot of wear) near right corner of upper lip. I love the early-vintage Barbie dolls' deep-red "lipstick" and "nail polish."
Over the years and as recently as last week, I've communicated in writing with long-time, highly experienced collectors of early-vintage Barbie dolls -- as I am not a Barbie expert -- and they've informed me that not every #3 Vintage Ponytail Barbie doll fades to white, or completely fades to white, or evenly fades to white. Many girls who first owned these dolls stored them away properly once the childhood days were over. However, for those prospective bidders who believe that my doll is a transitional #3/#4, please bid accordingly.
Miss Ponytail is dressed in a Suburban Shopper dress that is clean and has a good-condition b&w Barbie tag. The dress needs a light iron, if the buyer desires. I've added the straw tote filled with pastel pink and blue country blooms. Imagine: Miss Ponytail has enjoyed three hours at the open-air flower market on Paris' Rive Gauche.
Auction sale includes all clothing (including Winter Holiday -- one of the cork-wedge sandals has a broken sole, as pictured -- and the half-slip to Floral Petticoat, with its excellent elastic); shoes; and jewelry (including the broken graduated "pearl" necklace); and the adjustable two-piece black doll stand with the "KAISER CHICAGO" imprint on the underside of the base. The safe faux-pearl necklace that Miss Ponytail is modeling is non-Barbie and it's in good condition with a few "pearls" (at viewer's left) now dull rather than shiny.
Kindly read the "Condition" section at the top of this listing. Other than green ear, please take notice of her other age-related imperfections: surface soil from face to feet and a tiny nick on the right side of her back. My photographs are part of the listing description.
Please ask any questions prior to bidding. Buyer's remorse is unpleasant for both buyer and seller. Before I buy, if I have any hesitation I send my questions to the seller of the item that I desire. Rarely have I been disappointed.
I'm pleased to welcome bidders all over the planet -- and beyond, if that's possible. I participate in eBay's successful Global Shipping Program (GSP).
I appreciate your taking time to check out my doll auction today. Good luck bidding!
