This auction is for an early Lenci model # 1004 from the late 1920's or early 1930's.
He is 17 inches tall and is one of the hard-to-find series of Lenci Sports Figures. He is called "The Tennis Player."
This serious little... character has all the characteristics of the early Lenci dolls: zigzag stitching at the back of the neck, felt arms and legs, applied double felt ears, side-glancing brown eyes, two-tone lips with two lighter dot highlights on the lower lip, a swivel head, movable limbs and the third and fourth fingers of his hands are joined. His short strawberry blonde mohair bob is thick and full.
He is dressed in an all-felt outfit consisting of a fabulously intricate argyle-patterned top with a pointed collar, a short cotton undershirt, and felt shorts. He is wearing his original scalloped edge socks and white leather tennis shoes and sports a jaunty red felt beret on his tousled curls.
He carries his original tennis racquet and has the Lenci label affixed to his top stating that he is a model # 1004.
Condition: His solemn facial features are beautifully painted, all original and unretouched.
He is in excellent condition for a cloth doll over 90 years old, with only light overall shelf dust.
The colors of his felt outfit are bright and unfaded and there are only a few shallow moth nibbles in the fabric.
Here is your chance to add a rare Lenci boy with an amazing Art Deco outfit to your collection. Don't let him get away!
