DESCRIPTION: The Bauer Pottery Company of Los Angeles, California called this their “Indian Bowl” planter, probably due to the line motifs around the edges. Earlier versions from the 'teens were made in plain terra cotta, as well as with their gorgeous early matte green glaze. The ones made later (like this) have a somewhat simplified shape, and were glazed in the bright colors of the com...pany’s late 1920s dinnerware and flowerpots. Made in multiple sizes from tiny to porch/patio size, these pots are perfect for growing the cactus and succulents that thrive in the hot, dry California summers – or just for display in your home.
Measures approximately 3-3/4 inches in diameter (if you don’t count the raised lines), and about 2-3/8 inches high. I have enjoyed having this piece on display in my home for at least 10 years, but I've decided to part with it, so that it can find a new, appreciative home. I have started it at a $99 opening bid, with no reserve, to give it lots of room to find fair market value. An orange one in this same rare small size, in mint condition, sold on eBay last year for $523! I will not change the auction to a Buy It Now; please do not ask.

CONDITION: No chips, cracks, scratches, sickness or repairs. The drainage hole is intact and not punched out. Few if any surface flaws. A really nice example, in the rarest size.
REFERENCE: The “later” Indian bowl is shown in a photograph on page 142 of the Collectors Encyclopedia of Bauer Pottery by Jack Chipman. The early version of the Indian bowl is shown in a catalog reprint depicted on page 181. This shape is also shown on page 47 of The Complete Collectors Guide to Bauer Pottery by Jack Chipman & Judy Stangler.

PAYMENT: I accept PayPal. If you have any questions about paying for your item, such as whether other payment methods are acceptable, please ask me well before the end of the auction so that I will have time to reply.
RETURNS: I offer returns only in the event that I shipped you the wrong item (it happened once), or if I grossly misrepresent the item (which will never, ever happen, because I'm not that kind of seller.) I cannot accept returns for reasons beyond my control (for example, item did not match buyer's drapes, item had infinitesimal manufacturing flaw, item was 1/16th of an inch taller or shorter than identical item in existing collection, etc.)
