Qing Dynasty SILK Longpao Chinese Court Robe For Men DRAGON ROBE W/ Tag Inside
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:66111 |
TheLongpao is a traditional Chinese dress/robe for men generally worn tocourt. (Maybe even weddings and formal events.) This is a QingDynasty, nine dragons, imperial robe that is royal blue in colorwith brocade and silk embroidered metallic threads of five toeddragons amongst clouds and other symbols and Lishui borders at thehem and end of sleeves. There is a dragon on each shoulder, the frontbreast ...area, the back center and two on the lower front. There is another under the front flap. Late QingDynasty, probably late 1800's to early 1900's. (most of the itemsthat were retrieved from the estate sale I got this from were fromthe same time period. Lots of Art Nouveau.) It is very very dramaticand beautiful.
I think this belonged to a larger male because it measures approximately, 58" from the top of the neck line in back to the bottom hem, has a 90" arm span and is 30" wide from armpit to armpit. The Metropolitan Museum has several of these Dragon Robes in their collection! This robe is in beatiful condition, it has no issues that I can personally see. There are brass buttons that run down one side to close the robe in silk loop eyelets. There is a tag sewn into the fabric on the lower corner of a flap but it has a chinese character and I do not know what it says. This could be worn or even hung on a wall for display purposes. I have a Waitao, a chinese woman's coat/surcoat listed at this time as well, both from the same previous owner.
This item is still being sold AS IS so please, please look at the pictures and use them for visual inspection. Please ask questions if you have them because I am NOT an expert on Chinese/Japanese antiquities or collectibles. (but I'm learning)
THEFINE PRINT: (Most always longer than the item's description is.)
