1973 Gibson Les Paul Signature Bass Guitar - RARE Tobacco Burst
Item History & Price
Condition is as you see it. Personally, I haven't seen a Les Paul Signature in this kind of shape. 100% original. It even has the factory foam mute (never installed).Surface finish is nice. No cracks, damage or repairs. A few light scratches here and there, but no chips in the finish. Very very minimal amount of surface crazing.(I looked the bass over and couldn't see any crazing in d...aylight).
Electronics work perfectly. It has flatwound strings that are a bit rusty. They might be the strings that came with the bass, but I have no way of knowing that. I boughtthe bass years ago and never changed the strings. There are a couple things I should point out:
• The finish around the neck joint has flaked away a bit. The neck definitely hasn't been reset, as this flaking does not extend to the top of the bass. It's only around the heel (see photos). Could just be associated with age and changes in humidity. I've owned several Gibson semi-hollowbody basses and most (maybe all) had this going on.
• The ring around the selector knob has a crack in it. Definitely age-related. (see photo)
The weight is 8 lbs., 13 oz. The bass is set up nicely and plays and sounds great. Comes as you see it with the factory original hardshell case. I believe Gibson only made around 50 of these basses in tobacco burst.
The manufacture date of 1973 is an educated guess on my part. It's hard to nail down dates using Gibson serial numbers. The serial number of this bass is 117666, and "Made in USA" is pressed into the back of the headstock. I've attached a photo of the serial number, but it was super hard to get a good image.
