C. PLATH NAVISTAR CLASSIC SEXTANT - LIKE NEW -PLUS NAV BOOKS & ARTIFICIAL HORIZON. This offering includes everything an aspiring or experienced navigator needs to navigate celestially between latitudes 30 and 45 degrees inclusive.
I am selling these items because of my advancing age and inability to participate in future ocean races, as I'm now the full time care giver of my wife.
T...here are 3 similar C. Plath sextants currently listed on ebay. The 2 listed for $2, 250 and $1, 500 are older sextants and do not include the 6 x 30 scope in my offering pictures in photos #9 and #10. The sextant listed for $900 does not include the 6 x 30 scope pictured in photos #9 and #10; its case appears to be significantly worn; as do the latches and handle base. These 3 offerings do not include the Davis Instruments Prism Level II, the Davis Instruments Artificial Horizon, and none of the Pubs and other books needed for celestial navigation.
I bought this sextant and the accompanying items and books when I first celestial navigated the Marion to Bermuda Cruising Yacht Race in 1989. I used these on 3 Marion-Bermuda Races. We were becalmed about 40 miles from Bermuda in the 1989 race and did not finish. In the 2003 race, we were 1st in class. In the 2007 race we were 2nd in class. Other than on and in preparation for these 3 races, the sextant and accompanying items have never been out of their mahogany case. The only defects are a bit of corrosion on the left end of the brass hinge on the case shown in photo #11 and small amounts corrosion on the brass base of the handle and the latches of the case.
