As can be seen from the images, this volume has been completely rebound in modern quarter calf, and measures approx. 34.7cm x 23.1cm x 8.3cm. The hinges are a bit rubbed and worn, and are beginning to split a little to the top and bottom, with a little chipping to the top of the rear joint. Boards remain reasonable firm. Internally, there are later endpapers to the front and rear. Lacking the "Minde of the Front". Both the engraved half title and text title page have been repaired/strengthened to the bottom and inner edges, where the leaves have been chipped and torn, and repairing vertical tears to the bottom of each. The first couple of leaves of prelims have some margin repairs, see images. There is some marginal staining to some sections in places throughout, affecting the edges of a couple of the engraved map/plans. 2 of the maps/plans have closed tears to image. One of the maps has been bound upside down. There are a few scattered edge chip, tears or paper flaws, in places throughout. There is some browning, a little scattered grubbiness or thumbing, and the odd light mark or scattered rust spot. A couple of leaves of the Chronological Table have been shaved encroaching on some lettering woodcut lines. The last leaf to rear has a few repairs, and is rather grubby. Else on the whole the vast contents are in rather good, clean, and bright condition throughout.

Upon his return from America, Walter Raleigh the famous English explorer, was arrested and imprisoned by King James I, with whom he was highly unpopular. It was during his imprisonment in the Tower of London, that he embarked on this iconic work, 'He intended to outline historical events from creation to modern times, drawing on the Bible, Greek mythology, and other sources."
