Mynext ATARI item up for your consideration is:
Thisauction is for one 48K Atari 400 Computer as pictured.
Thisauction is for one beautiful 48K Atari 400 computer as pictured. This is a very clean 400. It was recently stripped down to the cardand chip level, cleaned reassembled, and thoroughly tested. Allchips were pulled and re-seated. The memory card and the CPU boardswere pulled, cleaned and lubricated with electronic contactcleaner/lubricant. This not only cleans any contamination orcorrosion now, but protects in the foreseeable future too. Years ofinternal dust was removed and all surfaces cleaned including thekeyboard.
**Ialso removed all the black sticky degraded foam from under the cartridgedoor and replace it with modern double sided thick tape and reattach it.**
Isee (2) primary problems with these older Atari units.
1)Pin to connector corrosion or oxidization, eventually causingfailure. Re-seating chips & boards and cleaning &lubricating is a fantastic way to keep these old Atari-treasuresalive much longer.
2)The original foam that held the shield cover in place disintegratesinto a sticky crumbly foam mess, that falls directly into thecartridge slot, causing the failure of your cartridges and or your 400.
Thereare many Atari 400’s on e-Bay all the time, so why buy from me? Why this 400? Well this one has long since been upgraded to 48K. This is actually a 64K RAM board, but the Atari can only use 48K. The 400’s from Mid-1980 shipped with 16K, some earlier 400’sshipped with 8K. The additional Ram makes this 400 functionallyidentical (Memory wise) to the 800. It is able to play all theoriginal 8 & 16K carts, but now the larger carts are accessiblytoo. With a 48K 400 you will also have full access to Floppy DiskDrive. Atari DOS alone was 16K. So there were many things a stock400 user could not do with a Disk Drive.
Alsoif you did not notice the mechanical keyboard. The membrane keyboardis gone. This mod was also performed long ago. In the beginning1981-1983 this little beauty was my personal Atari computer. Thiscoupled with the 48K RAM makes this lil’ pup an earlysuper-computer. The keys all function extremely well. I did at onetime remove the guide keys on the space bar. For some reason theynever seemed to line up quite right and made it extra firm. The fixwas to simply remove them, the space bar feels loose but I have neverhad any issues with it.
Thisunit is in great condition, there is yellowing but is very mild andnormally for its age and is fairly consistant throughout. This unitcomes complete… Everything you see in the picture except myworkbench and monitor.
