Click images to enlarge Description Rare CANON L1 (Made Only in 1957 Less than 8, 000 examples). One of the Most Beautiful rangefinder cameras. With Many Original and Unique Features not found on any other 35mm rangefinder cameras! Very First with Unique "Three Mode Optical Viewfinder" 35mm, 50mm & Rangefinder scales. The RF mode increased magnification to the equivalent of a 135mm lens permitting exteremely Accurate Focusing even in very subdued lighting and permits using the lens wide open. Serial No.564488.
With Legendary Canon f: 1.2 50 mm Coated and Fully Color Corrected lens No.21918 (1957).
Focal Plane Shutter with speeds from 1 sec. . to 1/1, 000 sec. T. & B.
Large Combined Rangefinder/Viewfinder. Automatic Film Counter.
All in Superb Original Close to new Unused and Full Working Condition.
The Shutter works at all speeds and appears to be very accurate. The shutter is light tight and opens and closes perfectly (image 11 & 12). The Lens is clear, no fungus, scratches or cleaning marks and only a very slight amount of internal dust. I am confident it will produce excellent results.
The camera body has no dents or dings, scratches or bright marks. The Satin and Bright Chrome finish is in Superb condition. There are no marks from handling.
The Black fine grained covering is Complete and Rare to find in such "Close to New" Condition.
The black paint on the Top Canon logo and around is perfect . Internally the camera has no signs of having been use with film. The Rangefinder focuses correctly and the Viewfinder is clear and sharp. Focusing is vert accurate.
I did test it before listing and everything works perfectly. The camera opens and closes correctly. Please see all 15 High Definition photos of the actual camera for condition.
Purchased as a Collectible and always stored in my climatized humidity controlled storage.
The CanonL-1 was only produced for a very short time in 1957 since production and sales of the SLR's was already going on.
It woud be difficult if not Impossible to find another example of this magnificent camera in such Incredible Original condition. Making it a very rare Collectible as well as a fine user camera.
Almost always found in very used non working condition and almost Impossible to Find in this "ready to Use" and full functioning state with only the slightest signs of age or handling.
With its beautiful Dark Brown Leather Fitter case and lens cap. Both in superb condition and original Canon sky filter. The camera has always been stored correctly and with the lens cap on.
