Model: Commodore 128
Original Description:
Commodore 128C ComputerUp forauction is a Commodore 128C Computer and Power Supply only. There is no video, serialcable, software or manuals in this auction. I do have a Commodore 128 Computerbox but it does not match the serial number on the computer. If you would liketo include the box with the computer I will throw in it for no charge but youwill have to pay the extra shipping as it will require a bigger box. If youwish to see the box I can provide you with pictures.  General D...escriptionThesystem has been given what I would call a light spring cleaning inside andoutside. The keys have been removed from the keyboard and cleaned. The keyboarditself has been taken apart and all the contacts have been cleaned and the fuzzhas been building up for 30+ years has been removed from under the keys. Thecase is in very nice shape for its age but does have some slight yellowing. Itis not very noticeable but it is worth mentioning. Please notice that the heatshield has been removed and heat sinks are used on the chips that it would havehelped keep cool. TestingAs youcan see the system has a clean bill of health from the Full Diagnostic Harness whichwas ran for over an hour to cycle through to a 24 times (Count meter lower left hand cornerof the screen) to make sure everything was working on this computer. Pleasenote that everything has passed the tests. This is because I use a Full TestingHarness. Others will show you a picture of the test screen that has been ranonce with a lot of chips and ports showing “BAD” and say that is normal if you do not havethe harness and does not mean those chips are bad. They are correct in that itis normal to show that and does not mean those chips and ports are bad. Itdoes not mean they are good either. It means that those chips and portshave not been tested.  Why buy a systemthat all the chips and ports have not been tested 100%? All the chips andports in this system have been Fully Tested and passed every testmultiple times. It was also checked with the Dead Test Cartridge to doublecheck that everything is working correctly. Anyrepairs that was done to this computer was done using original Commodore partsso no new technology was used in the repairs. Everything in this computer isold school so there will be no compatibility issues.Pleasenote that the pictures were taken on all three Commodore 128 modes was testedon a 1902 monitor to show that will boot into each. The pictures of theDiagnostic test and the game after being loaded were done using a LCD Tv. TheTV/Monitor’s are not included. ShippingAs of thetime that I am posting it this system is in good working order. If you arepicking it up, I will guarantee to the fact that it is as I have describedabove as to condition and working order but when shipping, due to its ageand the fact that this will be passing through other people’s hands that I haveno control over, this item is being sold as is. This item will be shipped in anew oversized box and packed with bubble wrap as well as other packingmaterial. This is the best way to ensure the best shipping results.  If you are consideringbuying an 'UNTESTED' Commodore 128C, you should consider thefollowing:Theseller may have tested and determined that the 128C is not working correctly, and simply call it 'untested'. This applies to really anything you buy, but especially old computers.Just because the red 'Power' LED is on, does not mean thecomputer is working correctly.  LEDon simply means that the internal fuse is good and there is enough workinginside the 128C to provide voltage to the power LED.  One or more of themajor integrated circuits could be bad (or missing!), the circuit board couldbe damaged, and who knows what else. When I am looking to buy one of thesecomputers and I cannot at least be shown that it boots correctly to the startupscreen I assume that there is a problem with it. Just because the Commodore boot screen is present, do not assume that the computer is working correctly. I have seen multiple computers that presented the boot screen, only to find oneor more of the following problems:  Dying/bad MOS 6581 SID sound chip, fried PLA, dying VIC-II video processor chip, dead DRAM chips, andothers.  I have one of these in my possession right now. Passes thetests without the harness. Boots to a prefect startup screen but as soon as youhook a cassette or disk drive up to it, it boots to a black screen.  I will be happy to answer any question anyone mayhave about this system so please fill free to ask.
