This is a High Grade Petzval Brass Lens, there is no maker's name on the Lens and is from around c1880 to 1895. It comes with an Iris diaphragm, the scale marked is from F4 to F16.
The Lens optics is of the Petzval design- 2 cemented glass in the front and 2 air spaced glass on the back. The approx foc...al length is 9 inch, distance from the image formed to the Iris diaphragm.Because of its fast speed Lens can be used on Wet Plate Collodion Cameras and regular field cameras or even on film/digital cameras with the help of appropriate adapters.
Optical Condition- The Lens Optics is crystal clear with only few minor marks and is without any fungus or haze, quite remarkable for a 120 year old Lens.Cosmetic condition-Lens barrel shows patina and signs of use because of age and handling.
Lens dimension- 4 inch height; 2½ inch front dia; 56mm flange mounting thread dia. The Lens comes with a custom made steel flange. The Glass shows reflections in the pictures and does not pertain to any defects. Hard to find Petzval Brass Lens with early aperture diaphragm.
