Up for consideration is a beautiful Mid 1800s head fiddle honoring Gaspard Duiffoprugcar. The carving itself is absolutely beautiful and very elaborate as well! The head fiddles can vary in quality, and this one is one the upper end of the spectrum. The back has a beautiful inlaid village scene of Bologna, as well as a George Washington tribute as well. This could be some sort of Centennial purpose, but that is just speculation...It also has a nicely flamed neck and back as well.... Not sure if this from France or Italy, or possibly Germany. Either way the carvings, the inlaid scene on the back, and the fiddle itself are beautiful! Very nice craftsmanship throughout, and a quality made fiddle indeed!
The fiddle itself is in great condition overall, particularly considering it's age...There aren't any major issues to speak of, as in structurally...No cracks or anything of that nature. There is wear, such as scratches and dings obviously, but nothing too major. Overall cosmetically a strong 7.5/10. This was part of a collection that has been in the family since it's inception, and well cared for...It has been sitting for quite some time without strings, and stored properly...I'm sure it will need a set-up, other than that it shouldn't need much.
