Rare late 19th century baseball bat.....from approx 1870s-1890s from the research I've done. This is a fresh barn find from last weekend and totally original and as-found. All I did was wipe the dust off with a damp sponge. This bat dates from the ring bat era I believe and has the sawed off end that was not allowed after 1893, again, this is according to the research I did. It measures just under 32 inches long and is approx 1 1/2 inches in diameter and weighs in at 35 ounces. It is f...actory made, not homemade....was turned on a lathe and has the lathe marks on the end. Has a red stamped logo on it that says NYC and what I think is an N over a C in a crest, its hard to read the logo.....presumably the NYC is for New York City. I tried to research the company but was unsuccessful...not much info out there on these late 1800s bats and who made them. This bat has an awesome old dark reddish brown patina to the wood and is in pretty good condition for its age.....condition is as photographed with some overall wear as to be expected from age and use such as some scuffs, dings, scratches, dirt, etc etc.....bat is not cracked and is solid...no water damage or end rot. It has such a great look and feel to it. If I an incorrect on anything I described, educate me so I can provide a proper description....and don't be mean about it. It is offered AS-IS so please study all of the photos closely and make your own assessment of condition and to make sure that this item suits all of your needs as the pictures are part of the description and are of the actual item you will receive. Please ask any questions that you may have and I will do my best to answer them. Thanks for looking
