Rarely Seen Chimney Draft Vacuum Or Syphon Gauge
Item History & Price

Over the next few weeks I will be listing many early (mid/late 1800s) and rare steam gauges from an advancedprivate collection. Some are diaphragm gauges and unless noted otherwise, all respond to air pressure, although I can not attest to their accuracy. Check back often to see great pieces.
My 1909 W H Bailey & Co. Catalog of Useful Inventions refers to a very similar tool as a FLUE TESTING SYPHON DRAUGHT GA...UGE. Used for experiments in air currents and to measure the velocity of air in large chimneys. In practice there would be a small pipe near the base of the brick work of an industrial chimney. When the operator placed the nose of this device into the pipe, the upward movement of the hot air in the chimney would create a vacuum or draft and this negative pressure would suck mercury [none present] (or water) thru the U shaped glass tube. The greater the draft, the greater the vacuum. 7" wide by 6 1/2" tall, heavy patinaed brass.

QUESTIONS: Feel free to contact me via eBay messages, thanks.
SHIPPING: Some items do not include a shipping price, as the things I sell are often heavy and/or odd-shaped and the cost of packing, insurance and shipping will depend on the winner's location and the item's value. When I do not list a shipping cost, eBay calls this "FREIGHT SHIPPING". That is not correct as most items will be shipped by Fed Ex, UPS or the Post Office. I'm happy to answer your questions about shipping estimates, but please DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE. My packing store closes Saturday at 12 noon and is closed on Sunday.INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: Cost for international packing, insurance and shipping also depends on weight, shape, size, value and the destination country. Please contact me through eBay for an estimate but PLEASE DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE.
